These two homes, each approximately 4500 square feet, are built of carefully detailed natural materials. The footprints are shaped to create a sense of arrival and unique feeling of place on this parcel of land. Each home offers privacy and views due to careful orientation upon this hilly, wooded site. Existing glacial boulders, long buried deep under the soil, form the backbone of the new landscaped earth berms. Environmentally sustainable features include high performance glazing set in wood frames, manufactured framing, on-site storm water detention, the minimization of impervious surfaces on-site, generous planting of new white pines, and the preservation of rows of existing oaks and maples ringing the site. Deep overhangs, skirted oil-stained shingles, tapered chimneys, and recessed front porch entries add to the sense of sturdy shelter offered by each of these structures.
